குமரிக்கண்டம் அல்லது இலமூரியா கண்டம் என்று அழைக்கப்படும் இளமை மாறாத கண்டம் தற்போதய கன்யாகுமரியில் இருந்து பரந்து விரிந்து காணப்பட்டது இதுவே முதல் மனிதன் தோன்றிய இடம் என்று ஆராய்ச்சியாளர்களால் உறுதி செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது .இக்கண்டம் இருந்தது நிரூபிக்கப்படவில்லை எனினும் பல நூல்களில் இக்கண்டம் இருந்ததற்கான சான்றுகள் கிடைக்கப்பெற்றுள்ளது மேலும் இப்பகுதி பல ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு கடற்கோளால் கொள்ளப்பட்டது .இங்கு தான் முதல் தமிழ் சங்கமும் இரண்டாம் தமிழ் சங்கமும் இருந்திருக்க வேண்டும் என்று பலரால் கூறப்படுகிறது .மேலும் இக்கண்டத்தில் தான் முதல் மொழியாகிய தமிழ் தோன்றியது என்று வரலாற்று ஆய்வாளர்கள் கூறுகின்றனர் தமிழர்களின் பிறப்பிடமாக விளங்கும் குமரிக்கண்டம் இருப்பதற்கான சான்று இந்திய பெருங்கடலுக்கு அடியில் புதைந்து இருக்கலாம் என்று பலரும் கூறுகின்றனர் .
Kumarikandam also known as Lemuria kandam is denoted as the birth place of Tamil language, it is said that very long ago the Kumarikandam is situated in the southest direction near Kanyakumari district in Tamil Nadu as seen in the above picture but due to Global warming the sea water rises and the land mark was drowned in the sea water. Though there is no scientific proof that Kumarikandam exists long ago many Tamil scriptures denotes that there is a place Kumarikandam exists and the Tamil language was developed in that place. Also the archaeologists revels that the olden Tamil people followed a well civilized culture.
